Rice a la Bounty

I am in India now. In the south, more precisely in Kerala.

And one thing that is amazing here is food. One of my favourite rice variation is Coconut Rice, wehich tastes almost like Bounty chocolate, without the chocolate.

How to? for 1 person (increase ingredients if cooking for more)

cook the rice (the best type is Basmati)

Then heat the oil and throw in and stir:
2 whole red chilies
some fresh curry leaves
mustard seeds (1 little spoon)
some fresh cumin
cloves
cinamon (fresh)
cashwenuts
raisins

Then add freshly grated coconut (half of the amount of rice)

and stir some more....
at the end add rice, stir and serve with freshly choped coriander.

Voila, Bounty rice is served:)

The rice goes fatnastic with any other spicy or non spicy indian dish:)

Buon Apetite!

Blown by the wind...

So,

I am in Hong Kong, sitting in my hotel room. Watching TV, surfing and waiting for weather to get better.

We have a Tropical Cyclone signal 3 going on, expecting an announcement of Signal 8 to be made sometime in the next half hour... which apparently can be bad.

I read today on the web, that if there is:

  • Signal 1, stand by (that was yesterday) is a warning, when the cyclone is spotted in 800 km away from hong Kong territory.
  • Then, next step is Singal 3, and the next step is Signal 8 with different notices..
  • As soon as singnal 8 is issued, the public transport is closed down, schoolls dismiss the classes and governmental offices close. There is Signal 9, and then 10 means a hurricane over Hong kong...

So, I was advised not to go out today, my meeting with Michelle´s friend is postponed to Monday and it can happen, that I will not go to Macau tomorrow. As all water activities are to be cancelled.

It has been extremely hot and humid the last days. it was like 33 degrees, but as this maybe does not seem sooooo freaking hot, when you mix it with 88-95% humidity, it is FREAKING hot. On TV are warnings to drink enough water, stay in cool places and avoid any physical activities when outside. So.... officially I am warned not to run, ha ha...(ok, running is not my favourite sports anyway).

Yesterday evening, at 10 pm we were still at 30 degrees. it was so hot and humid, that my short walk to find something to eat, was a mix of 5 meters walk on the street, and jumping into every second store to get some air condition.

So, here I am, watching movies and hoping that the cyclone will go away. And take please the rain with you:)

still alive and kicking

Hello!!

I am still alive and kicking.
Had little interesting moments with idea of: how you can start hating your favourite food, if you had it too much...

So, I am in Australia today, moving to Kong Kong tomorrow. Did the farm ( 2 days), did the Fraser Island (2 days), checked out Sydney, Brisbane, Rockhampton, Nambucca Heads (dont ask me how I ended there), Bowral with my potential Slovenian relatives and I am ready to move on.... yeah. Australia needs much better planning if you want to do it right.

It is HUGE. You can take a train, and drive for 8 hours, and still not come very far. You can also take the bus. And the airplane. But airplanes need advanced planning, otherwise your budget can go singing on the streets for more money.

I will write about all the nice things more thoroughly in the next post.

There is repacking to be done, and we hit the road again.

Fiji - behind the scenes

so here it is ... Fiji in real life.

Yes, it is all true... there are crystal clear turquise waters.
There are palm trees, coconuts, lost of sun (but I experienced also the rain 3 days in a row), white sandy beaches....

there are many quite little Fijian kids. Cute so much, that you would just pack one in your backpack and bring it home with you:)
But well, I am not a famous and filthy rich celebrity with lots of connections... so I will just keep this photo as a nice memmory and forget about babies for a while...
There are some awesome Fiji adventures, if you happen to ran into Bosco on Mana island. he is the man with a plan, despite it looks he does not have any idea what we will do tomorrow. But spontaneous is the word. So one day, we packed ourselves in two little boats (the boat with the roof for the girls, and the little bumpy boat for the guys (check the photo), and went to Lautoka for a real rugby match between Fiji team and New zealand. We were quite good Fiji Team fans, got lots of attention with our headbans and ended up on Fijian Tv news:) Fiji tem unfortunatelly lost with 17 : 48.... more luck next time...

On Mana island, there is a small school... still it manages to teahc about 40 kids in 3 different classrooms... kids go to school from age of 6 to 13 and then the obligatory school is finished. They learn everything in both languages - fijian and english...
The cross dressing party was just lots of fun! I was the judge, which made my experience even more exciting...

When there is not much to do, as the weather is not the best.... there is still a guitar and Fiji bitter beer on the beach.... Bosco, Fredy and some other guys, having a chill out...

´Fijians in their element.... with a beer, or just dancing with a big machetta

Welcome songs.... and goodbye songs... this is really a nice way of welcoming the guests, that become your friends only few hours later:)

So, Fiji was great in just one word. I experienced more backpacker style of Fiji, but I do belive, this one is much more fun, that staying in a fancy resort for 400 dolars per night....
